Bahia Palace

Built at the end of the 19th century for the grand vizier Ba Ahmed, the Bahia Palace spreads over nearly eight hectares and counts more than a hundred and fifty rooms, arranged around planted courtyards and open-air patios.

The interest is in the detail: painted cedar ceilings, carved stucco, zellige tilework and worked doors, executed by craftsmen from Fez and Marrakech. The great riad and the marble courtyard of honour are the two set pieces.

The palace is open daily, generally 9am to 5pm, with shortened hours during Ramadan. Come early: the morning light is the best of the day and the courtyards are still quiet.
